The Aerco Christmas Party

2 Dec

So …. Its a week today until the Aerco Christmas Extravaganza. Its finally here –
The top secret party run down ……..

Guest arrive at 7pm sharp and are greeted with either a glass of champagne, Bucks fizz or orange juice.
When the enter the function room they will be greeted by 15 carol singers in the bar area for 1 hour. To accompany the welcome drinks they will be a victorian chestnut stand to eat their way through and festive reindeer outside for to pet, feed and enjoy having photographs with.
All the drinks for the first hour are paid for so knock your selves out! The guest are free to explore the grounds if they wish or just take in the festive atmosphere and indulge in the Willy Wonker style candy bar.

8pm is the call to dinner where the tables will be dressed in Silver and Red with plenty of things to play with a look at.
For the duration of the Starters and main course a table magician will floating around wowing the guests as the sample 5 star food.

Around 9pm the desert course begins …. Each table will have their very own christmas pudding which will be expertly Brandy flamed at the table and to accompany this a selection of local cheeses and mince pies.

While the guest are enjoying their desert the comedian will start …. 45 minutes of festive humour to have the guests laughing until their sides hurt.

From 10pm the disco starts … Of course their will be your usual cheesy Christmas songs and requests will be taken but what’s special about this disco is the light show and …. It might even snow!!

All this is taking place in their own private hotel with beautiful grounds which are visited every night by wild white deer. The hotel is in the middle of the country so the guests are free to make as much celebratory noise as they wish ….. I can’t wait and I’m not even 1 of the guests!!

Favourite party ….

16 Nov

Hmmmm, that’s a tough 1. There’s been so many!
Here’s a small selection –

There were the parties at McDonald’s when I was little. I loved them, every year they were the same – party games such as which team can make the tallest paper cup tower and quick tour of the McDonald’s kitchen then a happy meal for all. I’ve got pictures somewhere of my at my 5th birthday in a pale pink, puffy satin dress with lacey puff ball sleeves standing up on one of the McDonald’s benches in Romford, Essex looking very proud of myself and my teams cup tower. Its a shame those parties had to stop, they were so simple but can you imagine going into a McDonald’s kitchen now – you’d find out all their naughty secrets, it would be fascinating.

Another party I loved was my sisters 3rd or 4th birthday party. I didn’t like it because it was particularly fun or enjoyable I liked it because of the memories it gave our family and the lesson it taught my mum – lesson learnt, never let my stepdad but supplies for a children’s party. Mum had been busy working all day and totally forgot to get party food for the party so asked Rob (that’s my stepdad) to go get the supplies after work. Now then, if you knew you were having a child’s birthday party what would you pick up? Sweets, cake maybe? Juice and possibly sausage rolls? Not Rob he brought 2 cases or champagne, cheese and biscuits and vegetable crisps ….. That was it! Honest …. Like I said, lesson learnt.

My dad threw me a 6 and a bit birthday party once. It was in my grandad’s garden and everyone just spent the day hanging out round the pool as I remember it being really hot. When it came to the cake it had 6 and a bit candles on it the only down size to the day was when my party trick went wrong. All day I had been practising running from the top garden straight down through the sliding glass doors and jumping into the pool. When everyone arrived I made them all watch me, I ran full pelt down the garden which was about 50 foot long so I picked up some speed straight at the wrong door, the door I ran at my closed ‘smack’ and down I went, just like in the cartoons when I came round I was sitting on dads lap ready to try it again!

Betty At The Party

16 Nov

Betty At The Party

“When I was at the party,”

Said Betty, aged just four,

“A little girl fell off her chair

Right down upon the floor;

And all the other little girls

Began to laugh, but me –

I didn’t laugh a single bit,”

Said Betty seriously.

“Why not?” her mother asked her,

Full of delight to find

That Betty – bless her little heart! –

Had been so sweetly kind.

“Why didn’t you laugh, my darling?

Or don’t you like to tell?”

“I didn’t laugh,” said Betty,

“‘Cause me it was that fell.”

I think one of the coolest parties I ever went to as a kid was a punk party in the early 80s. It was held in a little room over a library, covered in sheets and graffed liberally. Everyone pitched in to look as punk as possible, and the costumes were amazing, and most of the music played was punk. Pinning a tail to a donkey with The Clash on is a pretty cool thing to do as an 8 year-old. A couple of girls came in full on disco flares and ‘fro wigs – they were shunned by the vast majority. I don’t condone such behaviour, but dressing up brings out another side to a person at a party, I guess….

What’s your favourite party costume/theme?

Party poem

16 Nov

Anyone remember a poem that started like this ….
“When I was at the party” said Betty aged just 4, “A little girl fell off her chair right down upon the floor.” ………………. Can’t remember the middle bit but its something about everyone at the party laughing at the little girl and then Betty proclaims she didn’t laugh, “why?” Her mother asked her ……………… “I didn’t laugh” said Betty “because it was me that fell!”

Such a beautiful poem and if anyone remembers the middle part please do let me know. I recited this when I was young at a speech and drama exam as far as I can remember my mum dressed me in a party dress and little red shoes. I got a distinction for that poem …. I was only 6!

Long hard days

16 Nov

Today I (sally) went to my friends funeral. The service was wonderful, so boyish just like he was. In actual fact it was quite a joyous occasion, fuelled with a shed load of tears and heart ache of course, but it was more a celebration of his life then a sombre affair. It was also the first time I’d ever worn a football t-shirt. Never in my life did I ever think I’d be in 1 of those but it was the dress code so really it was only respectable to stick to it.

Later on when I got home I got to thinking a little more about if We’ll Do It could do wakes … I feel there is a gap in the market for such thing and I think I’d be quite good at them. I feel I can be very sensitive and understanding in tragic situations as I have been through many in my short 26 years on this earth.

The thing I have noticed is that because the people who are organising the funeral and the wake are normal grief stricken their minds aren’t really focused on fun times so it normally works out that they get charged the earth for a crappy pub, cheap wine and un-satisfying fried or dried out food. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone make it special for you? Just because its a sad time it doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate the persons life and enjoy the company that you have with you on the day does it? Respectable and memorable with our signature personal touch … The problem is how to market such a service, through funeral parlours maybe? Who knows, its only a passing thought but it could develop later down the line.

I like the idea of handing out helium balloons in the persons favourite colour which people can tie special memories or messages to and then release them into the sky, not like an overly organised thing, just have them there in the corner with a few instructions on so that it anyone wanted to do it they could at a time and place or their choosing.

Anyway, time to get to bed and start thinking about what outfit to wear to the Aerco Christmas party on 9th December.

See ya,

Train journeys

14 Nov

They are so good for clearing your head and focusing your thoughts.
I’ve got my IPod on shuffle and I’ve managed to get the next 3 weeks straight in my head without the use on a calender, note pad or pen! You could ask me anything about anyone day over the next 3 weeks and I’d have the answer for sure!
Must remember to order santa hats for the Aerco christmas party – a christmas party isn’t a christmas party with out santa hats oh yeah and, of course, candy cane and a Willy Wonker candy bar (I mean like a sweet shop style bar not an actual candy/chocolate bar)
Alex is current back in Liverpool confirming all the bookings we have made for the party while I head down south to brighton for a few days off, grrrreat!
I worked on a wonderful event on saturday – Alternative Miss Liverpool! Part of Homotopia festival and I had the best time! The idea took its inspiration from a London based artist called Andrew Logan who started the Alternative Miss World in 1974. Andrew is a marvellous man and I can see why Homotopia wanted to work with him and take inspiration from him.
My job started off as back stage runner as I was just helping out a friend but slowly progressed into team leader and then back stage manager which means I must have been good at my job (phew!).
I was completely in charge of the contestants and let me tell you a 10 foot by 7 foot dressing room packed with 16 excitable, nervous, outrageous and bitchy drag queens is not the easiest thing to manage especially as none of them were allowed to drink, smoke or leave the dressing room until either the end of the pageant or they got voted off! I decided the only way I’d get them to at least attempt to tackle the tasks I asked them to do was be louder, bitchier and gayer then they could possibly be, as you can well imagine this didn’t work, it only added fuel to the already roaring fire!
10am till midnight my shift was, by the end I couldn’t even pick up my celebratory cuppa tea I was that exhausted …. Totally fabulous!
The venue look spectacular and everyone working on the event did a marvellous job, I felt very privilege to be involved …. Roll on next year! Now then …. Back to my thoughts …

Cureentl working on the table plan for Aerco ltd’s Christmas extravaganza on the 9th December and let me tell you its not as straight forward as it sounds. I feel, in future, on the RSVP form I will not ask if they have a prefered table buddy (someone they feel they must sit next to otherwise their evening will be absolutely terrible) this makes things very difficult especially when 7 different peple want to sit next to the same person but the person in question does not want to sit next to any of them! Tough call!
On with it I go … Wish me luck, I should be done by Tuesday.
